Fué aprobado por Orden del Día 113 del 13 de noviembre de 1944 del Comando de las Fuerzas Aéreas Militares, con la figura de un burrito alado llevando a horcajadas del mismo al paisanito de nombre Abrojo, con el brazo derecho levantando sosteniendo en la mano un sobre. Detrás de Abrojo y al costado derecho del anca, el burrito lleva una alforja cargada con paquetes de encomiendas, y en el frente de la alforja impresas las iniciales AT de la Agrupación Transporte.
Alguién tomó la idea, probablemente, de la tira cómica que se publicaba en el diario La Razón por Luis Dustuet, en la década de los cuarenta, en blanco y negro, con el título: Abrojo, un hombre duro. Era la historia de un gauchito pícaro, de nombre Abrojo con un burrito travieso. En La Razón del jueves 1 de noviembre de 1945, Abrojo dice en el primer cuadro:-Aya viene José. En el segundo lo embolsa y en el tercero, José dentro de la bolsa, colgado de un árbol exclama: ¡ Hacete duro Abrojo!
Pero el proyecto original del logo, utilizado por los primeros pilotos se basó en un dibujo de tono serio realizado por Alberto Guiraldes, tío del Comodoro (R) Juan José Guiraldes, consistente en un indiecito con un poncho marrón rojizo que tiene en su parte inferior unas figuras lineales negras, montado en un burro alado que lleva a la izquierda una gran alforja rectangular de color marrón.
Se utilizó en la ropa de vuelo, primero el logo serio ya comentado, luego el aprobado por la Orden Nro 113 del 13 de noviembre de 1944, primero para la Agrupación Transporte, luego para los Regimientos y finalmente para el Grupo 1 de Transporte Aéreo (T-1) y para el Grupo 2 (T-2), pero con los años se fueron deformando las figuras de Abrojo y del burrito y cambiando los colores originales. Aparecieron luego los distintivos por Escuadrón, siendo el primero en 1969, el utilizado por el Escuadrón I Hércules.
El emblema de Abrojo, fué utilizado en los morros de aeronaves como JU-52; Bristol Viking; Bristol Freigther; Dc 3; Dc 4; y otros hasta 1969 aprox.
